Newcastle return to Premier League

Newcastle have returned to the Premier League, after they defeated 10-man Preston North End 4-1 on Monday night.

The Magpies put up a resounding display in front of their home fans, to join Brighton and Hove Albion in booking a place in the top flight.

Striker Ayoze Perez scored a brace in the absence of top scorere Dwight Gayle, who was missing because of a hamstring problem. Christian Atsu and Matt Richie were also on target.

Ritchie scored Newcastle’s third from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, after Paul Gallagher was sent off for deliberate handball.

Newcastle have two more games to play and are currently in second place, four points behind Brighton.
