Reps give Osinbajo 1-week ultimatum on ministers-designate

The House said a situation where Stephen Ocheni from Kogi State and Suleiman Hassan from Gombe State, were yet to be assigned portfolios was disturbing.

The lawmakers, while adopting a motion by Sunday Karimi (PDP, Kogi), said Osinbajo as acting president must take immediate steps to swear in the two ministers-designate and assign them portfolios.

Karimi said Section 147 of the constitution provides that “There shall be such offices of ministers of the federation as may be established by the president. Such ministers shall be nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate.”

He added that Sections 143 (3) and 14 (3) provide that there should be federal character in the appointment of ministers in such a way that each state would have one.
