Inside Wizkid's $1M Per Month Spotify Success: A Closer Look

According to Spotify, Ayodeji Balogun, better known by his stage name Wizkid, is the highest-paid musician in Africa.

Wizkid is the top earner on the continent, bringing in an astonishing $1 million a month from the streaming service, according to data from the music analytics company Chart Masters.

This chart demonstrates the supremacy of Nigerian musicians globally, with Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy behind in second place with $782,148 in monthly revenue. Tems comes in third place with $660,210. With $607,804 and a fourth-place ranking, South African singer Tyla is the only non-Nigerian on the list.

With monthly profits of $7,717,904 and $7,713,106, respectively, American singer Taylor Swift and Canadian rapper Drake lead the Spotify earnings ranking globally.

Wizkid's breakthrough single "Holla at Your Boy" in 2010 marked the beginning of his ascent to fame. After working with Drake on "One Dance," which exposed him to a worldwide audience, his popularity skyrocketed.


His Grammy victory for his work on Beyoncé's "Brown Skin Girl" further cemented his reputation. His highly regarded albums More Love, Less Ego and Made in Lagos have strengthened African music's position on the international scene by pushing the genre's limits.
