Why Fermin Lopez Turned Down €70m from Manchester United

Fermin Lopez, a Barcelona player, reportedly rejected two Premier League clubs' approaches to sign him, including Manchester United.

Lopez has been linked to United several times in the past, but a transfer has obviously never happened.

According to a prior story published by The Peoples Person, United was keen to sign the young player as a possible Bruno Fernandes successor.

Lopez is establishing himself as a vital member of the team under new manager Hansi Flick. He stole the show in a resounding 7-1 victory over Valencia at the end of January, scoring two goals and dishing out two assists.

Lopez has made 24 appearances in all competitions so far this season, tallying four goals and five assists.

Sport claims that several elite English teams, including United and Unai Emery's Aston Villa, have taken notice of his performances.

According to the news source, Villa and United showed that they were prepared to spend a €70 million (£58.3 million) transfer price to complete a deal, but the 21-year-old showed no interest.

"The two offers that came in from Manchester United and Unai Emery's Aston Villa were not ones that Fermin wanted to hear."

In October last year, Lopez put pen to paper on a new five-year contract to extend his stay at Camp Nou. It’s believed that his new terms contain a release clause worth €500m (£416.5m). Therefore, despite Barca’s dire financial shape, they’re under no immense pressure to entertain offers for the player. Ruben Amorim’s men are back in action on Sunday, February 16 when they go away to Tottenham Hotspur.
