On what would have been his 79th birthday, the family of renowned Nigerian musician and electronic funk pioneer William Onyeabor honored him.

Charles, Emeka, and Chika Onyeabor, his sons, praised their father's lasting impact in a statement, calling his music and spirit timeless.

Our father was a force of nature who recognized the future of sound and embraced it long before the rest of the world did. He was more than just a musician. They claimed that his music was a movement, a message, and evidence of the boundless potential of African creativity.

Best remembered for his singles "Better Change Your Mind," "Fantastic Man," and "Atomic Bomb," Onyeabor was a pioneer in Nigerian music, combining electronic synthesisers and Afro-funk in a way that made him stand out.

Even though our father is no longer with us, his music and spirit endure forever. The family's statement added, "We are dedicated to making sure that his legacy endures, inspiring those who dare to dream differently."
