EU plans new sanctions as Putin’s skips Ukraine talks

Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, revealed fresh proposals for more penalties against Moscow on Friday in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's refusal to visit Turkey for talks with Ukraine.
When von der Leyen arrived at a gathering of European leaders in Tirana, he declared, "We're working on a new package of sanctions."
These actions would supplement the sanctions that EU nations approved earlier this week.
According to von der Leyen, they would decrease the oil price cap, list more ships from the so-called Russian shadow fleet, impose penalties on Nord Stream 1 and 2, and impose more financial sector restrictions.
"We must put more pressure on President Putin until he is prepared for peace because we want peace," she continued.

In Tirana, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer declared that in the event of no ceasefire, Ukraine's allies "will act together in relation to sanctions."
Therefore, he emphasized, "it's really important that we have absolute unity with our allies."
"What we witnessed yesterday and tonight, in my opinion, is another proof that Putin is not sincere about pursuing peace.
"He has been taking his time," Starmer continued.
