From Nollywood to Navy: Actress Grace-Charis Bassey becomes US sailor, citizen

After completing the United States Navy's boot camp, Nollywood actress Grace-Charis Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, formally earned the rank of Sailor and took the oath of allegiance as a US citizen.

As she dedicated her accomplishment to her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah, she revealed this in a series of pictures on her Instagram page on Monday.

“Last week, I took the oath as a U.S. citizen and graduated as a Sailor from the U.S. Navy boot camp,” Bassey wrote.

It wasn't an easy trip, but I kept my vision, my faith, and my roots with me at every turn. I was reared in Nigeria. America put me to the test. I am more resilient and resolute than ever today.

"I am grateful to everyone who had faith in me. I sincerely appreciate all of the overwhelming love and support. This is only the start. In memory of Naval CDR Asido Bassey Effah, my late father.


In order to keep faithful to her profession, she also joined the choir, she said, sharing videos from the graduation ceremony. She ended her post with the words, "I am eternally grateful." A proud American sailor.
