NAFDAC intercepts, uncovers multimillion-naira expired beverages in Kaduna

In Kaduna, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has seized and discovered N35 million worth of expired beverages.
Andrew Tamanuwa, the NAFDAC deputy director of investigation and enforcement directorate in Kaduna, told reporters on Tuesday in Kaduna that a good Samaritan's tip on Sunday night led to the confiscation of the expired drinks.
Mr Tamanuwa said the good Samaritan alerted NAFDAC that two busses and a golf wagon automobile were filled with expired non-alcoholic beverages traveling to Kwanar Dangora, Kiru LGA in Kano, culminating in the interception of the expired beverages and arrest of the owner.
During the interception, 300 packs of Fanta Orange flavor and 700 packs of Schweppes were confiscated.

He continued by saying that additional investigation led to a warehouse on Bayajidda Road in Kaduna, where more expired drinks were found, including 3,508 packs of sugar-free Coca-Cola, 87 packs of orange-flavored Fanta, and 588 packs of Schweppes.
According to him, the goods had been moved to the agency's warehouse and were slated to be destroyed after expiring in November 2024.
According to Mr. Tamanuwa, the case is still being investigated to find further offenders.
In order to preserve public health and the health of Nigerians, he urged the people to report questionable products, particularly during the holiday season.
Mr. Tamanuwa reassured Nigerians of the agency's determination to protect their health by restating its commitment to maintaining vigilance against dangerous and expired products.
