Embrace of Tradition: Makinde Officially Welcomes New Alaafin
Abimbola Owoade, the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, was given the Staff of Office by Governor Seyi Makinde.

The presentation was given by the governor on Monday at his office in Agodi, Ibadan, the state capital.

Owoade is expected to receive his appointment letter and office personnel today.

Prince Owoade is in the city. Tomorrow (Monday), he will receive a letter of appointment from the state government, allowing him to return to work as Alaafin," a senior government official informed The PUNCH.
Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, announced in a statement on Friday that Makinde had approved Owoade's appointment.

A distinguished group of dignitaries, traditional leaders, religious leaders, government representatives, and joyful Oyo indigenous people attended Owoade's inauguration as the 46th Alaafin-elect.

A significant chapter in Oyo's rich history was marked by the historic celebration, which began with prayers from Islamic, Christian, and traditional clerics and ended with lively music and cultural displays.
Makinde praised the Alaafin-elect as a leader who will uphold and protect the Oyo Kingdom's cultural and historical heritage while presenting the insignia of office.

The governor expressed confidence that the king will lead with wisdom, integrity, and an unflinching commitment to unity in the Oyo Kingdom, characterizing the Alaafin as more than just a traditional ruler but a guardian of a great history.

"We are confident that Oba Owoade will lead with integrity, wisdom, and a strong commitment to promoting unity," he stated.

Owoade pledged in his acceptance speech to put the kingdom's growth and the welfare of its citizens first.
He said, "I will dedicate myself to the development and prosperity of the Oyo Kingdom while making sure that the customs and principles that have upheld us for generations remain unwavering."

The ascent of Owoade comes after the death of Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III in April 2022. Adeyemi III reigned the Oyo Kingdom for an incredible fifty years.
A new age focused on cultural preservation, youth empowerment, and economic progress for the kingdom is expected to be ushered in by the reign of the new monarch.
