Lagbaja Honored: What the Ikeja Cantonment Renaming Means for Lagos

It is appropriate to rename it in honor of Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja, a commander whose life exemplified these principles. "He played crucial roles in counter-insurgency operations, internal security, and peacekeeping missions during his more than three decades of unwavering dedication to the Nigerian Army," he added.
Lagbaja deserves the honor, according to Sanwo-Olu.
The governor exhorted Nigerians to follow in his footsteps by being disciplined, brave, and patriotic.
He claimed that Nigeria had made a clear statement to the military and future generations that it would honor its soldiers by naming the cantonment after Lagbaja.
Not only during times of war, but also during times of peace, we must honor our courageous men and women in uniform.
We have to let them know that their sacrifices will always be appreciated.

As a government, we are still dedicated to strengthening this alliance and making sure that our armed forces have the resources and assistance they require to keep protecting our state and our country.

He thanked the Nigerian Army and the Ministry of Defence for the initiative.
“Recognising and celebrating our heroes is a culture we must uphold.
“It serves as motivation to our armed forces and a reassurance to all patriots that their sacrifices will never be forgotten,” the governor said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Lagbaja, the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, served from June 2023 to November 2024.
He was appointed on June 19, 2023, by President Bola Tinubu to succeed Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya.
Lagbaja died on Nov. 5, 2024, during an illness at the age of 56.
