Peter Okoye's Courtroom Revelation: The Rift That Divided a Family

One half of the now-defunct musical duo P-Square, singer Peter Okoye, has publicly criticized his family after testifying against Jude Okoye, his older brother, who is presently being charged with money laundering.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is bringing charges against Jude and Northside Music Limited for allegedly laundering N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59.

In an Instagram story post on Tuesday, Peter stated that he puts his mental health first and questioned the true meaning of family.

He maintained that love, loyalty, and trust—rather than deceit, manipulation, or theft—should be the foundation of genuine familial ties.

Peter said he would never longer give up his mental health for anyone, calling toxic family relationships debilitating and shameful.

"Don't let 'family' be the reason you're drowning in silence," he wrote. For more than 20 years, I did. I nearly lost everything because of that," the 43-year-old wrote.

However, I've learned that family doesn't steal from you, love doesn't control, and loyalty doesn't betray. Family that steals and breaks you isn’t family at all.

"A true family doesn't take advantage of you, embarrass you, treat you unfairly, or disregard your suffering. My sanity is important. I put my mental well-being first. It's too costly if it affects my emotional well-being.
