Kebbi Deputy Governor tasks joint committee to curb meningitis outbreak
Kebbi's Bold Initiative to Combat Meningitis Outbreak
In order to contain the recent outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis in Aliero, Jega, and other impacted local government areas, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, the deputy governor of Kebbi State and chairman of the Joint Committee on Immunization, Primary Health Care, and Environmental Sanitation, has called for increased efforts.

The call was made by Senator Tafida during the first session of a Joint Committee meeting that took place in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

As plans for the next round of routine immunization are being made, he emphasized the critical necessity for unified action to stop the disease's spread.

To guarantee the success of health initiatives throughout the state, the Deputy Governor asked chairmen of local governments and traditional leaders to intensify public awareness campaigns about vaccinations and environmental hygiene.

The state administration, led by Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, is committed to bolstering the primary healthcare system, Senator Tafida said, congratulating the recently appointed members of the Committee.

The meeting was appropriate, according to Permanent Secretary Dr. Aliyu Nuhu Koko, who spoke on behalf of the State Commissioner for Health, since the committee is getting ready to introduce a new round of vaccinations aimed at communicable diseases.

He affirmed that containment efforts are still being carried out in regions where the meningitis outbreak has sadly claimed lives.

Even though the meeting was short notice, Koko thanked the Deputy Governor for his support and attendance.

The health and environment sectors, donor organizations, traditional institutions, and local government officials are all represented on the Joint Committee on Immunization, Primary Health Care, and Environmental Sanitation.
