‘Kwankwaso Not A Thief,’ Yusuf Denies N2bn Monthly Payment To Ex-Gov
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has dismissed as “false and baseless” allegations of financial misconduct made by a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, over the alleged diversion of N2 billion from local government funds.

Governor Yusuf's comments come after recent claims made by Bichi that he (Bichi) accused the current government of embezzlement and that a former state governor, Musa Kwankwaso, had accepted illegal payments from the state treasury.

However, the governor maintained his administration remained open and dedicated to transparency while speaking to 484 elected ward council members on Sunday night at Government House's Coronation Hall.

"God has already provided us with all we could have asked for under this administration. Governor Yusuf declared, "We are all happy, and no thief can feel at home here; as long as someone is a thief, they cannot stay here."

He described the claims as an attempt to destroy the name of his political mentor, Senator Kwankwaso, who he said has an unblemished record in public service.

“We thank God that our government is clean from top to bottom. It is a government that considers all facets of growth. We have made prudent use of the money entrusted to us," he stated.

The remarks attributed to Bichi shocked Governor Yusuf, who pointed out that the former SSG had previously served in the administration and had been given the chance to help the people.

"Some remarks made by someone who was formerly elected to this government, given support, and placed in a strong position to serve the administration and the people surprise me.

He is making outrageous statements now that he is not in government.

According to what I've heard, this administration—which is only two years old—has stolen ten times as much as the one that was in place under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. Does this statement originate from a logical person, I wonder?

The governor also responded to allegations that Senator Kwankwaso is paid by the state government on a monthly basis, calling them vile lies.
The same person also asserted that the governor is required to pay N2 billion a month to our leader, Jagora. If given to the local governments, this N2 billion would be quite beneficial.

As a federal congressman, two-term governor, minister, senator, and twice a presidential contender, "Jagora is a man of God who left office with a clean and commendable record—someone who left with the people of Kano begging him to return," he stated.

The Kano people are proud of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who is not a thief. The governor proclaimed, "You and your allies will not bring disgrace to his name."

The governor questioned whether Bichi's acts were consistent with the principles of a true Kano indigene, casting doubt on the accuser's reliability.

"You say the governor was pleading with you for assistance. Are you the governor's father?" Yusuf asked. Is he your father, instead? Did the governor choose you, or did you choose him?

“Are you the one sending requests to him, or is he begging you for favours? Clearly, something is wrong. If the office you were assigned had anything to do with the budget, please let us know. This behavior is unacceptable to any normal person.

"I wish to urge anyone who hold this opinion to exercise caution. Since a true Kano indigene would never go to such lengths as to disparage our leaders and propagate lies about them, we even wonder if such a person is actually from Kano.
