Enugu Govt to launch state airline, CNG buses, and smart transport programme in May
Before the administration's second anniversary on May 29, 2025, the Enugu State Government plans to launch significant mobility and transportation initiatives, like as a state aircraft, a fleet of 100 CNG-powered buses, and a smart transport program.

Dr. Obi Ozor, the Commissioner for Transportation, and other important authorities announced this development over the weekend after a State Executive Council meeting at Government House in Enugu.

Dan Nwomeh, the Senior Special Adviser on Media to Governor Peter Mbah, made the announcement in a message that was uploaded on his official X account on Sunday.

Enugu Air, the state airline project, will launch with three aircraft, two of which have already reached the state, according to Ozor.

The first three aircraft are what we are starting with, and two of them are already down. By the end of this month, the third one will be operational," Ozor reportedly stated.

He continued, “We are hoping to start the commercial operations before the second year anniversary of this administration.”

On the mass transit program, Ozor said the government had already acquired 50 CNG-powered buses, with another 50 scheduled to arrive within weeks.

Additionally, you have seen buses for the state's mass transit scheme. Fifty of them are currently parked at Okpara Square, and in the coming weeks, another fifty will be added to that fleet," he stated.

He confirmed that all 100 buses would commence commercial operations before the end of May.

In addition to the buses, the commissioner revealed that five ultramodern bus terminals—two located at Holy Ghost and one each at Gariki, Abakpa, and Nsukka—will be inaugurated before the anniversary date.

  • These terminals, he noted, are expected to serve as key transit hubs and improve passenger convenience across the state’s transport network.
  • Ozor also revealed the state’s longer-term vision, which includes setting up a CNG and electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Enugu. The facility is expected to support vehicle production and maintenance, helping to sustain the clean-energy mobility transition.
The government intends to start the Enugu Smart Transport Program within the next 150 days, the statement added.
In keeping with the administration's objectives for sustainability and digital transformation, the program intends to improve route optimization, digitize ticketing, and integrate more than 2,000 electric vehicles into the transportation ecosystem.
