On May 23, 2025, the highly anticipated psychological drama "My Mother Is a Witch" will be released in theaters around the country.

Starring Efe Irele, Mercy Aigbe, Timini Egbuson, and Neo Akpofure, the film, which was written and directed by renowned Nigerian filmmaker Niyi Akinmolayan, tells a compelling story of family trauma, hidden secrets, and the challenging process of forgiving.

Produced by Anthill Studios and FrameFlixHQ, the film digs into the emotional consequences of childhood grief, exploring the nuances of family relationships through a visceral, character-driven tale. In addition to being the cast's leader, Irele is also the executive producer, which emphasizes her personal involvement with the project.

"The story's emotional impact was what initially caught my attention when I first saw the script, not just the title. The depth of the character I portray—a woman compelled to face unresolved pain and the emotional scars caused by a challenging upbringing—drew me in right away. I had to be very imaginative and emotionally invested in this character.

In the movie, Irele plays the role of her estranged mother, played by Mercy Aigbe. Tension, emotional detachment, and painful epiphanies characterize their on-screen interaction.

"It was a true honor to work with Mercy Aigbe," Irele continued. "Every scene we shared gained a remarkable emotional intensity from her performance. We were able to depict a severely damaged relationship together, one that many viewers might be able to identify with from their own experiences. The movie heavily emphasizes themes of bitterness, forgiveness, and the unsaid suffering that families frequently endure in silence.
