Unfortunately, the peace of Gbongan was threatened recently when human parts were found with an octogenarian, Pa Ganiyu Oladosu at his Idifa apartment located at Ile-Eesu compound in Gbongan. The discovery was as a result of a stench noticed by the residents of the area. When the unpleasant odour became unbearable for those living in the area, they summoned courage to search Oladosu’s apartment. Different parts of human bodies littered the building.

Within a twinkle of an eye, a  huge crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the strange scenario and the perpetrator. The angry mob attempted to lynch the 80-year-old man on the spot, but  the timely intervention of the police prevented jungle justice from being meted out on him. The police took Oladosu to the police headquarters in Osogbo, the state capital and detained him at the Criminal Investigation Department for interrogation. A multitude  kept thronging the scene until the parts of bodies were evacuated to the state hospital in Osogbo, where they were kept in the mortuary.

The Chairman of Ayedaade Local Government, Malam Muhammadu Basir said  a huge sum of money was spent to fumigate the apartment and the entire community to prevent an outbreak of diseases. “This is a very terrible situation. No one could believe that such a thing could happen right in the heart of the city here. However, the police have commenced investigation. I paid for the embalmment of the parts of the bodies that were evacuated from the building, and we spent a lot of money on fumigation, because we have to guard  against an outbreak of diseases in this community.”

While the investigation by the police is ongoing, people of Gbongan seemed to be apprehensive about the incident. Many were wondering how the old man got  the strength and power to kill many people within the town without raising any suspicion. Some of the residents  believed that there must be other people assisting him. Importantly, they said there were no cases of missing persons in the community. Could it be that the victims were killed somewhere else and brought to Oladosu in his house?

One of the community heads in the town, Chief Lateef Omolaoye who is the Baale of Animutemidire said Oladosu was living alone since his children had deserted him. Omolaoye said “Nobody enters his house because he lives alone. We usually see him on the street and greet whenever we see each other. I pass  in front of his house on a daily basis ,but I never knew that such strange and terrible things were happening inside the apartment. It was shocking and pathetic.”

In a chat with Daily Trust, the Vice Chairman of Gbongan Progressive Elements, Chief Saka Kola Owopade condemned the action of the suspect, and insisted that he must face the full wrath of the law. “We are surprised that such things were happening right inside the town. Surprisingly, there were no reported cases of missing persons in this town; yet, the man has killed many people. Definitely, his victims are not indigenes of the town. Who are his accomplices? We want the police to find out all these and bring the perpetrators to book.”

A traditional Chief, Chief Oduola Abioye who hails from the same family compound with the suspect, also described the development as unfortunate, and expressed regret that Oladosu who is also a prince in Gbongan from Sooko Royal family, ended up tarnishing the family name and reputation built by their forebears.

Abioye said “In fact, it was my children that noticed that something wrong was happening in Oladosu’s house due to the odour that was coming out from the building. We eventually searched the house and discovered some human parts  there. He wanted to run away but my children held him, and handed him over to the police.”

According to Abioye, Oladosu was living in Abeokuta ,Ogun State before he relocated to Gbongan and settled in the family compound. “He was selling bread when he came back home from Abeokuta. We didn’t know that he was perpetrating such evil in his house. One of his wives died sometime  ago and the second wife left him a long time ago. So, he was living alone. We know that he has eleven children, but we don’t know the whereabouts of his children at the moment.”

Abioye continued “there was a quarrel between Oladosu and me, because I prevented him from selling his father’s house which was built on a land that belonged  to the entire family. I didn’t allow him to sell the house because it amounts to selling the  family land. Because I didn’t allow him to sell the building after the death of his father, he considered me as his enemy and we have not been talking to each other. That was why I didn’t know much about him after his return to Gbongan from Abeokuta.”

The traditional ruler of the town, Olufi of Gbongan Oba Adetoyese Oyeniyi was shocked by the action of Oladosu. He said it was strange and alien to the community and wondered what prompted Oladosu to perpetrate such. The monarch explained that the suspect would have been lynched before the arrival of the police, but he cautioned his subjects against jungle justice.

He urges the Police to conduct a very diligent investigation and ensure proper prosecution of the suspect. The monarch urged the police to ensure that the culprit and his accomplices face the full wrath of the law. He explained that what Oladosu did was alien to the community ,and that the murderer would no longer be accepted in the town.
