Why Peter Obi & Atiku’s 2027 Plans Could Shake Up Nigerian Politics

After speculations connected him to Atiku Abubakar's presidential ambition, Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential contender, is currently trending on X, formerly Twitter, as "Obi VP."
According to reports, Peter Obi was given a vice presidential post on a shared single-term ticket by Atiku, the former vice president who leads the opposition coalition in an attempt to unseat the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.
According to reports, Obi has agreed to be Atiku's running mate, and Atiku is reportedly committed to serving a single four-year term.
The two political titans are putting a lot of effort into creating a strong and workable coalition platform to take on the APC, according to sources who spoke to DOROTV.

According to Atiku’s Media Adviser, Mazi Paul Ibe, significant progress has been made in the coalition-building process, adding that specific details, including power-sharing arrangements, are still being finalised.
"I can attest that His Excellency Peter Obi, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, and all opposition leaders are putting forth great effort to create a strong and sustainable coalition platform," he stated.
However, the claims regarding Atiku offering Obi a Vice Presidential seat in his proposal have generated a buzz on X, as ‘Obi VP’ surges on the social media platform.
While many Nigerians, notably Atiku supporters, appreciated the concept, some Obi loyalists do not agree with the agreement.

Given his success in the most recent 2023 election, @Oye_Dot feels that Obi's acceptance of a vice presidential position is an insult.
"Considering Peter Obi's electoral value and background, it is insulting to offer him a vice presidential position. Given this, any merger in which Peter Obi is not the presidential candidate is unacceptable, and we Obidients reject such a demeaning and offensive offer," he added.
Remember how the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declared Atiku and Obi as its presidential and vice presidential candidates in 2019? Former Vice President Muhammadu Buhari defeated them in the election.

Obi left the PDP for the Labour Party ahead of the 2023 election, running for the party's presidential nomination. As a result of the action, Atiku of the PDP, Obi of the LP, and Tinubu of the APC were in a three-way contest.
However, Tinubu, who was subsequently proclaimed president, defeated Atiku and Obi.
Atiku has been pushing the opposition coalition in an effort to avoid a recurrence of the 2023 defeat. He has urged Obi and other opposition members to join him in creating a political alliance that will unseat Tinubu and the APC in 2027.
