Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue state, has disassociated himself and his government from Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, visiting the state.
Rumor has it that Obi, who frequently traveled to Benue under former Governor Samuel Ortom, will arrive in Makurdi, the state capital, on Monday.
According to sources, Obi is also expected to visit internally displaced people (IDPs) in Abagena, Udei, and Guma Local Government Area, as well as HRM Tor Tiv, Professor James Iorzua Ayatse, the Tiv paramount king, in Gboko.
However, the Benue state government made it clear that it is not associated with or participating in the visit in a statement issued on Monday by Kulas Tersoo, the governor's chief press secretary.

According to the announcement, "Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue State, would like to notify the public that he does not anticipate any August visitors to the state today."
