Labour Party disowns Peter Obi’s coalition activities
In a warning that his ongoing participation in a third force coalition is unapproved and directly insults the party's internal procedures and leadership, the Labour Party has disassociated itself from the recent political actions of Mr. Peter Obi, its 2023 presidential candidate.

The Labour Party made it clear in a strongly worded statement released on Sunday by Obiora Ifoh, the party's national publicity secretary, that although it is still open to all candidates in the run-up to the general election in 2027, it will not put up with any behavior that compromises its independence, unity, and discipline.

The statement said, "The Labour Party leadership has watched Mr. Peter Obi's recent political actions with increasing concern, especially his ongoing involvement with a coalition movement that functions entirely outside the party's boundaries."

Obi, who recently alluded to a 2027 return under the Labour Party platform, was spotted in Abuja attending a meeting with a group of political players. The party claims that the meeting was held without its involvement or consent.

"The integrity of our internal democratic processes is directly challenged by this act, which was carried out without consultation or consent," Ifoh said.

The Labour Party stressed that it is not a party to any merger or alliance agreement and issued a warning that it would fiercely oppose any attempt to force the party into outside political formations.

The party stated, "The Labour Party is not a backup plan, nor will it be reduced to a mere vehicle for political convenience." "Mr. Obi's association with an external political movement while laying claim to our presidential ticket raises serious questions about his intentions," the party said.

The party emphasized that the 2027 presidential ticket is still open and would be contested in line with its policies and procedures, reaffirming its dedication to internal democracy.

While Obi has remained a key figure within the opposition movement, his recent coalition engagements have triggered concerns about parallel political structures and mixed loyalties.
