Mexican Influencer Tragically Shot in Shocking Livestream Incident

A Mexican social media influencer was shot dead during a live stream on TikTok, where she had tens of thousands of followers, authorities said Wednesday.

She was identified by the Mexican media as Valeria Marquez, a 23-year-old who shared lifestyle and beauty videos, some of which received hundreds of thousands of views.
According to the Jalisco state prosecutor's office, she was murdered on Tuesday night inside her beauty parlor in Zapopan, a suburb of Guadalajara in the west.
In a statement, it stated that the victim was "someone with an active presence and influence on social media."
It further stated that "a man entered the premises and apparently fired a gun at her."
The attack's motivation was not immediately apparent.
The Jalisco New Generation Cartel, one of Mexico's most dangerous drug trafficking organizations, is based in the area, which is a hub of criminal activity.

But as of right now, authorities have not discovered any proof that a criminal organization was responsible for the shooting, state security coordinator Roberto Alarcon told reporters.
There is no record in his office of Marquez asking for assistance from police due to threats against her, according to Zapopan Mayor Juan Jose Frangie.
"That you're making a video and then getting killed is amazing. The worst thing is a femicide, Frangie declared.
A man who pretended to be bringing Marquez a gift killed her, according to media accounts.
In Mexico, where crime and gender-based violence are pervasive, the UN estimates that ten or more women or girls are killed every day.
