New Leadership in Lagos: Mojisola Meranda's Vision for a United Future

Mojisola Meranda, the new speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has urged her colleagues to collaborate for a brighter future for the state.

Meranda made the statements during her first plenary session as speaker of the legislature on Friday.

She emphasized the necessity of collaboration between the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government in achieving successful governance and democratic growth.

The speaker expressed her determination to promote the assembly's independence through transparency and governance accountability.

Meranda also emphasized the importance of reviewing old policies and addressing critical issues such as healthcare, infrastructure, and economic growth, as well as strong constituency involvement to ensure that the voices and concerns of state people are heard.

She stated, "Today, we are reminded of the sacred obligations that fall upon our shoulders as representatives of the wonderful people of Lagos State. We are the custodians of their hopes, dreams, and concerns, and we must justify their faith in us.

"To deliver the fruits of democracy to Lagosians, we must cultivate cooperation and mutual respect while ensuring that our legislative activities are consistent with the executive's goal for a better Lagos State.

"We will ensure that, regardless of gender, education, religious or ethnic background, every Lagos resident can proudly say, 'I am a Lagosian.'" Our young and women are critical to our progress, and we will provide opportunities that allow them to reach their full potential. Our activities shall be driven by integrity, fairness, and justice as we work to develop the institution and pass meaningful legislation for the benefit of Lagosians."
