Join the Bluey Craze: Why Pet Owners Can't Get Enough
It's my dog's world, and I'm just living in it.
My family and I are proud owners of five dogs: Khloe Jolie, Kingston Banks, Kennedy Fitzgerald, Honey Florence, and Teddy Bernard.
Khloe is the first dog we've ever owned, and she's taught us more about pet ownership and ourselves than we could have dreamed.
When my family and I first met Khloe, we quickly discovered a lot about her nature, including the fact that she is a diva and what she enjoys and dislikes.
We just realized that Khloe is obsessed with something that other dog owners have seen their canine partners enjoy as well.
One day, while sitting in the living room, I wanted to put something on television to keep my dogs entertained while I was at work.
Khloe has previously expressed interest in Frozen (I believe she particularly enjoyed the lovely snowman Olaf), as well as the live-action rendition of The Lion King.
Given her fondness for Disney films, I decided to open Disney+ to find something for all five pups to watch. After navigating through numerous alternatives, I almost clicked on 101 Dalmatians – since dogs love to watch other dogs, right?— I noticed an option for a show I'd heard of but didn't know much about.
When I clicked on the little icon, I was taken to the landing page for Bluey, a television series about the titular Blue Heeler dog who lives with her father, mother, and younger sister Bingo.
"This seems like a cute show for them to watch," I remember thinking to myself before turning on the series.
Within seconds of the enticing beat of the opening theme, I observed Khloe's attention drawn to the TV.
About a half-hour later, with episodes playing back to back, I looked up from my laptop to see Khloe sitting up on the couch opposite me, staring at the TV screen.
"Khloe? Khloe? "Khloe Jolie?" I would call to her, but she remained unconcerned. "Khloe?" I would attempt again, but to no avail.
Watching her from the other side of the room, I couldn't help but notice Khloe was completely engrossed in the television in front of her.
Even my attempts to use "the T word" — "treat" — were ignored, indicating that Khloe was completely focused on the children's series.

Captivated by Khloe's obsession, I grabbed my phone and took a video of her watching Bluey, which I later shared on social media for my followers to see.
"OMG! "This is so cute," one friend wrote, as a family member said: "Look at her sitting up. She appears like a human."
Since then, I've put Bluey on for Khloe on countless occasions — when I had to leave the home, when I needed some quiet time, etc. — and the response has always been the same.
Sometimes she sits up to watch the show, and other times she rests in front of the TV, her head resting on her paws.

And, it turns out, I'm not the only dog owner who has noticed that their pet enjoys the cartoon show.
Scrolling through TikTok, I see innumerable videos of pet owners sharing clips of their pups watching Bluey, their attention caught in the same way that Khloe's was.
Janneke Margand reports that her 10-month-old Golden Retriever Teddy is also a Bluey admirer. "He will be very focused on the screen, will tilt his head at certain noises, and sometimes will bark and walk up to the TV with excitement if there is a faster-paced scene," adds the woman.
Emma and Corey Moriarty say the same is true for Blue, their six-year-old Siberian Husky. "We saw a TikTok video about how dogs love Bluey ... so we threw it on, and he was instantly hooked to the TV and never looked away," they told the publication.
Morgan Hill’s Goldendoodle Shem, who is a year old, began watching Bluey when he "was just a puppy," according to her. "He loves it. He tilts his head, staring at the television! It is hilarious. I enjoy seeing him watch Bluey. "It gives me joy."
Leigh Mysticate adds that her Shih-tzu/Maltese mix Denji watches Bluey with such intent, as the pup "doesn't take their eyes off of the iPad, tilts their head at particular situations, and

Amanda Farah, a National Training & Behavior Coordinator for the Best Friends Animal Society, told PEOPLE last year that there are numerous reasons why Bluey has become renowned as "dog entertainment."
One of the most prevalent hypotheses for why dogs enjoy the show is its blue-and-yellow color scheme. Though Farah stated that "we can't get inside a dog's brain and know" which colors they can see, there is some evidence to suggest that dogs see blue and yellow, two colors that appear prominently in Bluey.
Farah also mentioned that the show's "dog elements" include constant movement and high-pitched sounds, which she claims dogs respond to. Bluey, of course, has dogs. "There is research that says that dogs seem to discriminate dogs on video," Farah informed me. "They recognize dog shapes, which is probably not surprising."
Bluey is available for streaming on Disney+.
