A prophet of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, Yomi Adetula, was, on Sunday, shot dead by gunmen.
The prophet was shot by three shooters who reportedly interrupted the Sunday service at the Eagle Parish church on Baggage Road in Odo Eran, Idiroko, at around 10:30 a.m.
In a statement, state police spokeswoman Omolola Odutola stated, "Police officers rushed to the site and found Yomi Adetula, 'M,' 54, lying face up, motionless in the pool of blood that marred his white heavenly outfit.
"His skull was not speared, and his body was covered in bullets, according to close inspection. It was mangled with an axe to make sure the person was indeed dead.
“On police inquiry, information further gathered that three men came into the church, brought out long double barrel gun aimed at their target and fired a shot that brought the deceased down.”
The body has been taken to the General Hospital Morgue in Ilaro, according to Mrs. Odutola, who also stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the gunmen who allegedly fled into the border.
"As an investigation into the very sad occurrence has been launched, normalcy has been restored and potential clues will be revealed in the coming days," she continued.
