53 escape death as Max Air crash-lands in Kano
At least 53 passengers and crew members on board Max Air barely survived Tuesday night's crash landing at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano.
The Boeing 737-4D7 Max Air, registered 5N-MBD, B733, lost its front tire and overshot the runway before crashing into the ground around 9:15 p.m.
An emergency escape was used to ease the passengers' intense dread as the plane, which had returned from Lagos via Abuja prior to the event, leaving them paralyzed.
DoroTv was informed by a senior Max Air employee who verified the situation that both passengers and crew had been safely evacuated.
The employee, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that a preliminary investigation report revealed a tire burst. He added, however, that statutory regulators, such as the Aircraft and Equipment Department (AED) and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), have been contacted for complete details.
In addition to expressing displeasure with the hardships that passengers and staff had to endure throughout the horrific incident, the officer reassured management that safety would always come first.

According to him, Max Air is always ready to subject its operations to standard procedures and regulations and would not compromise safety policy for any reason.
In December 2024, a Max Air aircraft, VM1623, with registration number 5N-BBM, had an emergency landing at Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Maiduguri after an engine fire incident.
The near mishap occurred shortly after takeoff from the airport, leaving passengers in tense shock and fear. The VM1623 had about 80 passengers on board, including the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Usman Kadafur.
