Trump's Bold Claim: NATO's Role in Ukraine Conflict!

On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov chastised Donald Trump for claiming that the crisis in Ukraine was largely caused by the US's prior backing of Ukraine's application to join NATO.

According to Trump, Russia could not have permitted Ukraine to join NATO, and he blames Joe Biden, his predecessor, for supposedly shifting the US's stance on Ukraine's NATO membership.


He is the first—and, as far as I can tell, the only Western leader—to openly and forcefully state that the previous administration's obscene attempt to get Ukraine to join NATO was one of the main reasons behind the current state of affairs in Ukraine.

He had said it multiple times, but no Western leader had ever spoken it. When President (Vladimir) Putin says this, it's already a sign that he understands our stance," Lavrov added.

Following discussions with the US in Riyadh on Tuesday, Russia rejected the notion that NATO member forces could be peacekeepers under a ceasefire agreement and insisted that NATO renounce its 2008 pledge to grant Ukraine membership in the US-led alliance.
