Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj killed American Idol after 14 years
The next season of American Idol would be the last show as announced on Tuesday after the show's 14 years of powering. Former American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe blamed the demise of the show on the beef between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj which took interest away from the contestants and to the judges.

According to Sun, the producer said:

Mariah and Nicki was just crazy, and then it really started becoming about the judges and took away from the contestants altogether. I think that was a major failing on the part of casting to have those two together.
