According to a statement made available to leadership by the founder and chief executive officer of the MoC, Bimbo Akanni, the tournament would kick-off its mission to discover and develop young talents in Nigeria that will represent and win medals for the nation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and beyond.

This weekend would serve as the last-chance for athletes to qualify for and be selected to represent Nigeria at the African Junior Championships in Algeria, scheduled to hold from June 29 to July 2nd, the World Youth (U-18) Championships in Kenya from July 12th to 16th, as well as the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas for July 19th to 23rd.

There would be a morning session (9am to noon) and afternoon (3pm to 6pm) sessions on each day, with the most exciting finals (e.g. the 100m & 200m) taking place in the afternoons.
