29-year-old Nigerian-British elected UK’s youngest Mayor

The United Kingdom's youngest mayor, Princess Opeyemi Bright, was sworn in.
Princess Bright was sworn in on Friday, May 16, 2025, and is now only 29 years old and the First Citizen of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
Her election has been widely hailed as a testament to diversity, youth empowerment, and the expanding influence of Nigerians outside. She was born in the UK to Nigerian parents.
She said during her swearing-in ceremony, "This is nothing short of God's grace." As a proud Nigerian, I will represent my background with excellence and humility, and I am honored to serve my borough. May others be motivated to rise, lead, and serve by this journey.
