Political Shakeup in Akwa Ibom: Commissioner Resigns Over APC Issue

Following the defection of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ini Ememobong, one of the state’s cabinet members, has resigned.
Before his resignation on Friday, Ememobong was the state’s Commissioner for Information, Special Duties, and Ibom Deep Sea Port.
In a letter to the governor dated June 6, 2025, Ememobong stated that his resignation was in accordance with Eno's order for those appointees who were not willing to join him in switching from the PDP to the APC to resign.
"You have ordered the resignation of any appointee who refuses to join you in switching from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

"I hereby respectfully tender my resignation as Honorable Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port and a member of the State Executive Council, based on my personal convictions," Ememobong stated.
Eno's defection came about six weeks after Sheriff Oborevwori, his counterpart from Delta State, defected from the PDP to the APC, a move that many political analysts have connected to the 2027 election.
When Eno announced his support for the President's reelection during the flag-off of the 65-kilometer, three-lane dual carriageway portion of the highway project in the state's Nsit-Antai Local Government Area in April, the public first learned about the likelihood of his defection.
