The Nigeria Police Force and other security forces will undergo a thorough makeover, as President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to this goal.
In order to improve police professionalism and morale, Tinubu also promised that the Federal Government would keep funding welfare programs, training, and equipment.
At the second Nigeria Police Award and Commendation Ceremony, which took place in Abuja on Wednesday, the President announced this.
Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, made the remarks on his behalf.

"My administration is unwavering in its determination to restructure and reorganize the Nigeria Police Force.
Tinubu stated, "We acknowledge that contemporary policing necessitates cutting-edge equipment, intelligence-driven tactics, strong community involvement, and ongoing training."
In order to boost operational effectiveness and raise the spirits of police personnel at all levels, he said, the government would continue to invest in state-of-the-art gear, technological advancements, capacity-building initiatives, and welfare programs.
Tinubu urged police officers to continue being professional, accountable, and dedicated to their constitutional responsibilities while voicing confidence in the ongoing reforms.
"The rights and safety of the Nigerian people are entrusted to you. Your authority is not for coercion but for defense; it is not for misuse but for assistance.

A personal payment of N5 million to the family of the late Assistant Commissioner of Police, Aniedi Cecilia Udoh, who received the 2024 Community Policing Advocate of the Year award posthumously, was disclosed by Akpabio during his speech.
Udoh, who was from Akwa Ibom State and served as the Area Commander of Ahoada in Rivers State, died in May while still in active duty.

Highlighting his lengthy support for the police, Akpabio remembered his efforts as governor of Akwa Ibom State, where he gave the Force with 350 patrol vehicles fitted with communication gear, four armoured personnel carriers, and maritime police equipment.

"I promise you on behalf of the National Assembly that we will keep allocating the resources required to improve the strength and well-being of the Nigeria Police Force," he added.
Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, emphasized that the Force's reform was a sustained commitment rather than only a catchphrase.
"This is about legacy, not just about awards.
"The Nigerian people continue to be our most important partners in this journey, and policing is not a transactional duty—it is a transformational mission," he stated.
