Police: How we killed the abductors and saved the ex-AIG
The Nigeria Police Force has described how its officers in Ogun State freed the wife of Hakeem Odumosu, a former assistant inspector general of police, who was kidnapped last Thursday from her home in the Arepo neighborhood of the state.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, said Metro in a statement that Mrs. Odumosu was freed early Thursday morning following seven days in detention.
According to Metro last Friday, at around 10 p.m. on Thursday, four masked men accosted Mrs. Odumosu, dragged her from her Lexus Jeep, and took off with her.

After seven days in captivity, Mrs. Odumosu was liberated early Thursday morning, according to a statement released by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.
It was reported last Friday that at around 10 p.m. on Thursday, four masked men kidnapped Mrs. Odumosu, assaulted her, dragged her from her Lexus Jeep, and took off with her.
Adejobi described how she was saved, saying that the state police command's anti-kidnapping team located the abductors in a creek in Lagos State's Ikorodu neighborhood after conducting a thorough intelligence collection.
It was reported last Friday that at around 10 p.m. on Thursday, four masked men kidnapped Mrs. Odumosu, assaulted her, dragged her from her Lexus Jeep, and took off with her.
Adejobi described how she was saved, saying that the state police command's anti-kidnapping team located the abductors in a creek in Lagos State's Ikorodu neighborhood after conducting a thorough intelligence collection.
He claimed that when the kidnappers saw the police, they opened fire on them but were routed by the brave cops.
According to Adejobi, the victim was recovered unharmed, four of the kidnappers fled, and two of them were killed in the gunfight.
"Police officers affiliated with the Ogun State Command have successfully neutralized the kidnappers of Mrs. Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant-Inspector General, Hakeem Odumosu, and rescued her unharmed in a commendable display of teamwork and swift action," he added.
According to Adejobi, the victim was recovered unharmed, four of the kidnappers fled, and two of them were killed in the gunfight.
"Police officers affiliated with the Ogun State Command have successfully neutralized the kidnappers of Mrs. Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant-Inspector General, Hakeem Odumosu, and rescued her unharmed in a commendable display of teamwork and swift action," he added.
At approximately 06:45 AM on January 23, 2025, their efforts paid off with a raid. The police were directed by intelligence to a stream in the marshy region of Ikorodu, where the abductors were allegedly preparing their next assault.
The kidnappers opened fire on the operatives when they arrived. Two of the gunmen were killed in the resulting altercation, and four more ran away, leaving their working guns behind. During the operation, Mrs. Odumosu, the victim, was saved safely among the marshy creeks.
He continued by saying that the police had found N10 million in exhibits, including AK-47 weaponry and locally manufactured single-barrelled firearms.
The kidnappers opened fire on the operatives when they arrived. Two of the gunmen were killed in the resulting altercation, and four more ran away, leaving their working guns behind. During the operation, Mrs. Odumosu, the victim, was saved safely among the marshy creeks.
He continued by saying that the police had found N10 million in exhibits, including AK-47 weaponry and locally manufactured single-barrelled firearms.
Adejobi emphasized that the victim had been reunited with her family while praising the rescue team for their successful mission.
She has subsequently been reunited with her family and is presently having a medical evaluation as a precaution.
In order to further ensure that justice is done, the police also retrieved four AK-47 firearms, three locally manufactured single-barrelled rifles, ammunition of various calibres, and the N10,000,000 ransom that the kidnappers had earlier requested.
"The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, and his officers have been commended by Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for their gallantry in this successful operation," Adejobi said.
She has subsequently been reunited with her family and is presently having a medical evaluation as a precaution.
