Exploring Ibo Culture: The Bond Between Mothers and Daughters-in-Law
Why Igbo mothers are kind to their daughters-in-law
A Nigerian woman discusses Igbo family dynamics and emphasizes the goodwill shown by Igbo mothers to their daughters-in-law.

According to a woman on Facebook who went by Ijeoma Chinonyerem, in Igbo tradition, showing courtesy to daughters-in-law is a subliminal invitation to assume greater responsibility.

In order to prevent animosity, she pointed out that the Igbo tribe regularly calls and welcomes their daughters-in-law.

Furthermore, Ijeoma Chinonyerem said it's an honest observation and admitted that her opinions on Igbo culture could cause distrust.

"If you are dating an Igbo man and his family, especially if his mother is *very* kind, keep in mind that you are marrying the family efulefu and they want you to do and bear the burden," she writes in her piece. Their ovu ngwongwo is you.
