LASEMA battles raging fire at Ago medical facility

A roaring fire that consumed portions of a storey building containing Ago Medical Center, off Ago Palace Way, Okota, has been successfully extinguished, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
This was revealed in a statement early on Saturday by Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA's Permanent Secretary.
After receiving distress calls on its 767/112 Emergency Toll-Free Lines around 18.29 hours on Friday, Oke-Osanyintolu stated that the agency activated the state's emergency response plan and its response team from Oshodi.
When LASEMA's Eagle Response Team arrived at the address at 18:50, they found that parts of a multi-story building that housed a hospital were being completely destroyed by fire.

"A power surge that resulted in a spark when the public electricity power supply was restored was the immediate cause of the fire, according to preliminary investigations conducted by LASEMA's Eagle Response Team," Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
According to him, the incident did not result in any recorded injuries or fatalities.
In order to keep the fire from spreading to nearby structures, he stated that the LASEMA Response Team (LRU) Fire Unit and other responders were working together to contain it.
Responders are fighting to extinguish the fire, which is still burning.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, "Response and Recovery Operations are in progress."
