Tragedy Strikes: 16 Fatalities in Horrific Abeokuta-Sagamu Bus Crash

On Tuesday afternoon, a white Mazda bus caught fire near Buhari Estate on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, killing about sixteen people.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun Sector Command reports that a single vehicle with registration number KJA949YJ carrying 21 passengers was involved in the collision, which occurred at approximately 1:00 PM.
In a statement, Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the FRSC, revealed that three individuals were injured in varying degrees and that 16 people were killed in the collision.
According to Okpe, the victims were so badly burned that it was impossible to determine their genders at the spot.
Additionally, she stated that the bodies are still at the scene, awaiting evacuation, while the injured victims were transported to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta.

Okpe claims that the vehicle's fire outbreak, which also had a full gas cylinder that caused the explosion, is the likely cause of the collision.
"The Sector Commander, Ogun Sector Command, CC Akinwumi Fasakin, promptly dispatched his team to the crash site for a rescue operation, but he was not happy with the incident that led to the loss of life because of the driver's negligence, which could have been prevented," Okpe continued.
"The driver ought to have protested about carrying a gas cylinder. Highly flammable products should only be transported in designated trucks with skilled drivers, he said.
