Celebrity Scandal: Iyabo Ojo and Comedian AY's Surprise Encounter with EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently invited comedian Ayo Makun, often known as AY, and well-known actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo to be questioned.
Following rumors of money being sprayed during Ojo's daughter's wedding, the invites were sent out. Later, both were released on bail with strict requirements.
In a public statement, Ojo acknowledged that the EFCC had invited her, citing the wedding's use of both foreign currency and Naira.
The actress clarified that she was asked about a number of personal and professional topics, such as her career and enterprises, when she visited the EFCC office on May 5, 2025.

In a public statement, Ojo acknowledged that the EFCC had invited her, citing the wedding's use of both foreign currency and Naira.
The actress clarified that she was asked about a number of personal and professional topics, such as her career and enterprises, when she visited the EFCC office on May 5, 2025.
Ojo provided more information about her encounter with the EFCC in an Instagram post, stating that she had not been detained but had been questioned on the wedding video, which showed friends and coworkers spraying money.
Although she thought that simply mutilating Naira cash was illegal, she stated that the EFCC personnel told her that it is forbidden to spray any currency, whether it be foreign or Naira.
In an Instagram post, Ojo wrote: "I feel it is necessary to make this briefing public in light of the recent social media media coverage and the many calls and emails I have received from many sources asking me about the EFCC invitation and to check on my well-being.
Although she thought that simply mutilating Naira cash was illegal, she stated that the EFCC personnel told her that it is forbidden to spray any currency, whether it be foreign or Naira.
In an Instagram post, Ojo wrote: "I feel it is necessary to make this briefing public in light of the recent social media media coverage and the many calls and emails I have received from many sources asking me about the EFCC invitation and to check on my well-being.
"After receiving an invitation letter while in the UK, I recently had an encounter with the EFCC in Nigeria. When I returned to the EFCC on May 5, 2025, I was questioned on a number of topics, including my personal biographical information, career, employment history, and companies. Guides to travel
The videos that the EFCC officials gave me were taken at my daughter's wedding, and they showed friends and coworkers spraying Naira and other cash.
When questioned if I was aware that this was against the law, I said that I believed that the only things that were unlawful were the misuse or mutilation of the Naira.
Officials from the EFCC made it clear that it is illegal to spray money, including on human beings.
The videos that the EFCC officials gave me were taken at my daughter's wedding, and they showed friends and coworkers spraying Naira and other cash.
When questioned if I was aware that this was against the law, I said that I believed that the only things that were unlawful were the misuse or mutilation of the Naira.
Officials from the EFCC made it clear that it is illegal to spray money, including on human beings.
I was shocked to hear that it's also forbidden to spray money, including dollars.
After being questioned, I was given permission to depart that same day, but O.I. Salami, my personal attorney, acted in my place in case I was called upon again.
I strongly advise against spraying any currency in Nigeria in light of my experience in order to prevent problems with the EFCC.
Perhaps this ancient custom has to be reexamined. Let's be cautious and steer clear of any possible issues.
"If you know that much about EFCC, you can't be arrested and still have your phone," comedian AY said in response to news of his arrest. He also revealed that he had received an invitation from the EFCC. "A visit to the commission and an invitation do not equate to an arrest."
