Terror in Borno: Soldier Missing After Violent Military Base Assault

Soldier feared killed as gunmen attack Borno military base
Insurgents from Boko Haram are suspected of killing a soldier during a raid on a military installation in Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State.
One cop was murdered and another was injured in the incident, according to Usman Tar, the state commissioner of information and internal security.
According to local sources who spoke to PUNCH Online, the rebels attacked the military formation Monday night, killing numerous personnel and critically injuring others through intermittent shooting.
Although there are still little information available about the attack, Abba Usman, a Damboa resident, claimed that a military reinforcement also stepped on a landmine and exploded, injuring and maybe killing more personnel.

"I can confirm that there was an attack and that soldiers were killed, but I don't have a lot of details. Additionally, we learned that soldiers en route to the base for reinforcements trod on what appeared to be a bomb, which caused it to detonate," Usman said.
Although a military source acknowledged the incident, they would not say how many soldiers were killed.
The source attested to the fact that "there was an attack, many soldiers were killed, but the figure is currently unknown."
"Please, I am out of station and Sabon Gari is under Sector 2," our correspondent said in response to a text message asking Lt Colonel A. Y. Jingina, the spokeswoman for Operation Hadin Kai, for comments on the incident.
Confirming the attack Tar, said,
“I can confirm, there was an IED attack in a place called Wajiroko (under Damboa). What happened is that our military personnel stepped on an IED. We lost one and one sustained injury. It was not an attack, it was an IED our soldiers stepped on .”
