Nigerian Gospel Singer Big Bolaji Dies at 50
Bolaji Adedotun Olanrewaju, a well-known Nigerian gospel singer and ordained pastor who was also referred to as Big Bolaji or "Big B," died at the age of fifty. His relatives announced that he died on Easter Saturday, 19 April 2025, following a brief illness. ?

He was “a beloved father, husband, brother, and a respected figure in the church community and the music industry,” according to an official statement from his family. They also said,

 “His departure leaves a void in our hearts that cannot be filled. Bolaji’s life was a testament to his passion for music, his unwavering faith, and his dedication to uplifting those around him.”?

Big Bolaji, a gospel musician and ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), was born in Gbongan, Osun State, and grew up in Ibadan, Oyo State. He was well-known for his upbeat worship style, sense of humor, and blend of modern gospel music and Yoruba rhythms. ?

Big Bolaji's long-running gospel radio show served as the inspiration for and presenter of "Turn It Up with Big Bolaji," an annual praise concert in Ibadan. Additionally, he was a member of the board of directors for one of Nigeria's oldest gospel music events, the Living Spring Music Festival. ?

In addition to his ministry and music career, he was a certified estate surveyor, seamlessly blending his professional and spiritual lives. He married Tolulope in 2005 after meeting her while pursuing his academic goals. The couple is fortunate to have kids. ?


Big Bolaji's recent participation as a judge on the Gospel Icons Africa reality show demonstrated his ongoing significance in the gospel music industry, as he served as a mentor and source of inspiration for up-and-coming musicians. ?

Social media has been inundated with tributes from friends, fans, and other gospel performers. In an Instagram tribute, seasoned gospel performer Chioma Jesus said that he was a light and a vessel. Gospel singer and comedian Woli Agba shared his sorrow, mentioning the death of two close friends in a span of two days. ?

As the family gathers to commemorate Bolaji's extraordinary life and legacy, specifics about his funeral plans will be announced when they are ready. They have asked to be kept private during this extremely trying period. ?
