How Trump's Order on ICE Targets Could Impact Your Local Community

President Donald Trump rescinded an order that prohibited arrests in "sensitive" settings, allowing federal immigration officials to target schools and churches.

The strategy to "thwart law enforcement in or near so-called sensitive areas" will be repealed, the Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday.

The directive, which was first implemented in 2011, forbade personnel of the Customs and Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement from making arrests of suspected undocumented immigrants in a number of places.

Funerals, marriages, public protests, hospitals, and places of worship were all considered forbidden.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson praised the action in a statement on Tuesday, stating that police will make arrests using "common sense."

"This action gives the courageous men and women in CBP and ICE the ability to enforce our immigration laws and apprehend criminal aliens who have entered our country illegally, including rapists and murderers," the statement stated.
