Empowering Nigeria: Tinubu Applauds Google’s Initiative in Digital Transformation

Bola Tinubu, the president, has praised Mr. Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, for the company's commitment to promoting artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation in Nigeria.

According to a statement by Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President’s spokesman, Tinubu met with the Google team in Paris on Wednesday alongside Mr Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy.

“The Google team held productive talks with President Tinubu, focusing on establishing a strategic alliance to advance Nigeria’s AI and digital transformation efforts.

“The partnership aims to establish Nigeria as a leading technology and innovation center by utilizing AI, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure to drive economic growth and boost global competitiveness.”

It mentioned that the discussions were centered on important initiatives like the enhancement of Nigeria's digital infrastructure and the provision of vital digital skills for the workforce in the future.

They also encompassed the promotion of AI-driven research and innovation, the encouragement of increased cloud adoption across different sectors, and the positioning of Nigeria as a significant participant in the global digital economy.

“President Tinubu underscored that this collaboration fits perfectly with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on economic diversification via industrialisation, technology, and innovation.

The federal ministry of communications, innovation, and digital economy will oversee the strategy, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) will work with the private sector to coordinate efforts for a widespread and meaningful impact.”
