Tensions Flare: Osun LG Siege Turns Violent as APC, PDP Members Clash
Members of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party clashed Monday as they tried to access the council secretariat, resulting in gunfire at the entrance of Osogbo Central Local Government Area, Oke Baale, Osogbo.

Our correspondent, who kept a careful eye on the scene, witnessed a bloodied man fighting with another suspected thugs who were allegedly employed by one of the sides.

The Osogbo/Ibokun Road, which runs in front of the local government administration, was empty at the time of the incident.

While the thugs who were shooting intermittently caused terror in the neighborhood, armed police officers were visible at the secretariat's entrance.

Festus Komolafe, a former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, led elected APC members into the Atakumosa West Local Government Secretariat. But a few minutes later they were gone.

PDP members brandishing canes were spotted singing at the gate to the Egbedore Local Government Secretariat in Awo, urging APC members to come closer.

According to reports, APC members in Ayedaade LGA arrived early in the morning at the secretariat in Gbongan.

Earlier, at the Boripe Local Government Secretariat in Iragbiji, officials elected on the APC platform in Osun State's local government elections on October 15, 2022, commenced their duties.

However, there was resistance to an APC member's attempt to seize control of the Olorunda Local Government Secretariat in Igbona, Osogbo, which increased tension in the area.

Armed police officers were positioned at the intersection leading to the Olorunda LGA secretariat when our correspondent arrived at the entrance at approximately 9:20 a.m.

APC members scattered after congregating at the secretariat's entrance.

Members of the Amotekun Corps and officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were also on hand, trying to appease irate PDP members who had set up shop at the secretariat's entrance.

No one was permitted to enter since the gate was locked.

Two people were attacked and their phones were broken after it was thought that they were using them to record events from a storey building across from the secretariat.

Tensions were further escalated when hoodlums brandishing charms were observed attacking people they saw filming the incident on their cell phones.

Mr. Gani Olaoluwa, the Osun State Commissioner for Rural Development, spoke to PDP members outside the secretariat and asked them to maintain their composure.

We appreciate you answering our call. No unlawful takeover will be permitted here. They were not restored by any court order," Olaoluwa stated.
