Kwankwaso – The Consequences of Party Defection in Nigerian Politics (NNPP)

The defection of some prominent members of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been denounced by Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and a former governor of Kano State. He accuses them of abandoning the movement’s principles and allegiance.

He made this announcement on Friday at his home on Miller Road in Kano, where he was speaking to a group of Takai Local Government Area supporters who had declined to join the APC.

The former governor's remarks come after numerous state federal lawmakers including Senator Abdulrahman Kawu, who represents the Kano South Senatorial District, defected to the APC.

"Kano South is a lesson," he remarked. Voters waited patiently to cast their ballots for the NNPP, rejecting superghetti, N200, and Atamfa (wrappers).

However, those of us who won the election chose to turn away from the general public and join others who are solely interested in what they can obtain for themselves and their families.

"Leaving the party that provided you with support and opportunities and then abandoning it is the worst political sin there is." This is the highest level of betrayal.”

The former governor described the returning members' decision as a reaffirmation of their commitment to the movement and praised them for having the guts to go back. Additionally, he cautioned that anyone who turned their backs on the Kwankwasiyya cause would eventually come to regret their choices.
