Soyinka Challenges Tinubu: The Controversy Behind Rivers' Emergency Rule

Professor Wole Soyinka, a Nobel laureate, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State.

In an interview with Channels Television, Soyinka called the situation "excessive."

Due to the political unrest and instability in the oil-rich state, Tinubu proclaimed emergency rule on Tuesday.

Additionally, he imposed a six-month initial suspension on all members of the Rivers legislature, Siminalayi Fubara, the state's governor, and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired naval chief, was designated as the state's only administrator by the president right away.
