The action comes after a string of assaults and homicides that have afflicted the state's impacted areas.

The attacks, which started on March 28, 2025, have caused uproar nationwide and have resulted in multiple fatalities.

In a statement, force public relations officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi said that Egbetokun, who called the development "deeply troubling," specifically instructed Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, to lead and coordinate "this critical intervention."

"Additional units of highly trained tactical personnel, state-of-the-art drones for enhanced surveillance, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), units of Police Mobile Force, helicopters, and specialized platoons from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS)" are among the reinforcements for the troubled state, according to the IGP.

According to him, the Nigeria Police Force, under his direction, is still totally dedicated to restoring long-term peace and stability in the area by collaborating closely with the Plateau State Government, local authorities, security services, and all other pertinent parties.

"The IGP has instructed DIG Kwazhi and the deployed security forces to adopt a multifaceted approach, focusing not only on suppressing the ongoing violence but also on proactively preventing future attacks, in recognition of the seriousness of the situation."

"On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, DIG Kwazhi arrived in Plateau State and made a courtesy call to His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State.

In this meeting, the IGP expressed its deepest sympathies to the impacted communities and families, as well as to the people of Plateau State as a whole.

The statement went on to say, "The meeting also provided an opportunity to personally assess the situation, investigate the underlying causes of the attacks, and cooperatively develop a sustainable, long-term solution to these senseless killings."

The IGP asked citizens to "provide any information that may assist in the ongoing investigation and efforts to maintain peace on the Plateau" in order to help the Police and other security forces.

The latest uptick in violence started on March 28, 2025, when a group of armed attackers carried out a vicious assault in Bokkos, killing some people and seriously wounding numerous others.

This initial incident tragically marked the beginning of a series of attacks that have since claimed the lives of scores of people, leaving communities devastated and gripped by fear.
