Tensions Rise: Portable and Speed Darlington Clash Ahead of the Big Event

The controversial musician Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, and his opponent Darlington Okoye, also known as Speed Darlington, got into heated arguments and vowed to fight brutally in the "Chaos In The Ring" boxing match, which is set for this Friday (today) at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos.

Until the celebs' turn, the weigh-ins for the other boxers went smoothly, save for a few shoves and taunts. Portable displayed his boxing prowess with some shadow boxing after the two musicians got into a mini-tussle at their weigh-ins and had to be removed by bouncers.

"You'd best promise not to fight again. I'm a former prisoner who recently got out of jail, and they cropped my hair. They cut off all the negative aspects of my life. Portable mocked his opponent, saying, "I've already won this fight."

The "Zazuu" crooner boasted about his fighting skills after being freed recently after Fuji star Saheed Osupa dropped a cyberstalking complaint against him.

"I will beat you because I am a street fighter and they (Balmoral) paid me to do it. I apologize in advance. I'll hit you if you believe it's because I recently got out of jail. He remarked, "You are a mosquito, and a mosquito cannot defeat a lion."

This comes weeks after he had previously stated he wanted to fight former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua for N100m instead of Speed Darlington, whom he considered an “unworthy opponent.”

Speed Darlington responded with equal ferocity, saying, “You can’t beat me, let’s go now! Nothing can happen. It is here that they will wipe your blood, just show up tomorrow. I will take your belt home with me.

This comes weeks after he had previously stated he wanted to fight former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua for N100m instead of Speed Darlington, whom he considered an “unworthy opponent.”

On the evening, Tanzanian opponent Suleiman Sheha will face Nigerian boxing phenom Basit "Jokerboy" Adebayo for the World Boxing Organization Youth International lightweight title.

In December 2023, Portable had already won a similar celebrity boxing battle at Landmark Beach in Victoria Island, Lagos State, following four rounds against Nollywood actor Charles Okocha. After Portable claimed that there were contractual problems concerning an alleged N40 million rip-off, the two had resolved their differences with their fists.

Boxing fans are in for what looks to be an exciting celebrity fight in the ring as Portable and Speed Darlington completed their weigh-ins and medicals at the Balmoral Event Centre.
