Court Sacks Rivers PDP Chairman, Nullifies Congresses

Justice Stephen Jumbo, the presiding judge, made this decision in his ruling on an interlocutory injunction on Monday.

Two Port Harcourt-based attorneys, Edwin Woko and Love Otuonye, along with two other PDP members, filed the case against the party's national chairman, state chairman, and nine other members, requesting that the court declare the alleged PDP local government and ward congresses held by pro-Wike supporters in 319 wards and 23 LGAs on July 27, August 10, and August 31 of last year as void.



The applicants argued that all of the congresses were held in violation of a July 16, 2024, order from the Rivers State High Court prohibiting the PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and their representatives and privies from holding congresses until the hearing and resolution of the original summons had been completed.

This decision follows a similar one last year that declared the state, local government, and ward executives of the All Progressive Congress (APC), which produced Tony Okocha, to be invalid.

According to some, this is a setback for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in his ongoing political conflict with Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Rivers State.
