Miracle Moment: Eaton and Palisades Wildfires Finally Tamed
Officially, the Palisades and Eaton wildfires have been contained. These fires ravaged neighborhoods in Los Angeles County, including Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Pasadena, and Altadena.
After weeks of fighting by firefighters, the California Department of Forestry Protection (CAL FIRE) declared on Friday, January 31, that the two fires, which both started on January 7 following a Santa Ana wind storm, are 100% contained.

According to CAL FIRE, the catastrophic Palisades Fire started on January 7 in the Pacific Palisades district of Los Angeles and has already spread over 23,448 acres.
According to the government, the Eaton fire also started on January 7 and spread to the eastern cities of Altadena and Pasadena in L.A. County, burning 14,021 acres.
Homes belonging to several generations of families were among the storied communities that were devastated by both fires. Billy Crystal, Anna Faris, Paris Hilton, Cameron Mathison, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, Ricki Lake, and Anthony Hopkins were among the many famous people whose homes were destroyed in the fires.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles has reported that strong Santa Ana winds, which reached hurricane-level speeds, spread the fires hundreds of acres in less than 24 hours, however officials are still looking into how each of the fires started.

According to the outlet, 9,418 people perished in the Eaton fire. County officials issued orders or issued evacuation advisories to more than 100,000 people.
On Monday, January 27, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office reported that an unnamed person who was hurt in the Palisades Fire passed away at the hospital on Saturday, January 25, increasing the number of fatalities from the two fires up to 29.
