Citing conflict inside the nation's major opposition political party, Senator Ned Nwoko, the member for Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP leadership in Ward 8, Aniocha North LGA, Deita State, was the recipient of Nwoko's letter dated January 30, 2025.
He complained that the party's present divisions had made it hard to promote harmony among the group he had joined in 1999.

"I am writing to formally resign my membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of which I have been a proud foundation member since 1999," the letter said in part.

"The party's severe divisions and factionalization are the main reasons for my resignation."It has become more challenging to promote unity and further the interests of our people as a whole as a result of this fragmentation.

"The top party officials physically fought among themselves in the stated factions, which have become irreconcilable, just this week, on January 29th, degenerating to the lowest levels."Additionally, I am very grateful for the platform the PDP gave me to run for senator in 2022–2023.

It gave me the chance to speak with members of my constituency directly and share my ideas for a better future.

"But as a public servant, I take seriously the serious and doable promises I made to my constituents during my campaign."Unfortunately, I have not been able to fulfill those pledges because of the party's current structure in our state. After giving it some thought, I've decided that in order to fulfill my responsibilities to my people, I must leave the party.

"As I say goodbye to the PDP, I promise my constituents and all party members that I will always be committed to statesmanship, unity, and the development of Detta North."I continue to be dedicated to the advancement and prosperity of our state and country, and my choice is based on what is best for the people I serve.

"I want to thank the PDP's leadership and members for their support and wish them continued success in their efforts to serve my constituents and advance our common objectives."
