Nigerian music industry shut down when I took break from social media – David

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, often known as Davido, claims that the Nigerian music industry shut down after he took a social media break in November 2022 following the untimely loss of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.

He described how both supporters and trolls begged him to return to social media during his three-month hiatus.

The musician revealed this in a recent interview with Apple Music's Ebro Darden.

He explained, "I knew people loved me because when I wasn't active online, the entire [Nigerian music] industry shut down. I saw tweets like 'We do adore him', 'It's very silent out here', and 'Davido, come back.' Even my detractors were like, 'Please, come back, we need to trash you'."

DOROTV reports that Davido took a sabbatical from social media in November 2022 after losing his son, Ifeanyi, in a swimming pool accident at his Lagos residence.

In March 2023, he returned to social media to reveal his fourth album, 'Timeless', which was met with enthusiasm.
