High-Level Talks: Russia and Trump's Envoy Seek a Path to Peace in Saudi Arabia

President Vladimir Putin of Russia on Monday sent his foreign minister and a senior Kremlin adviser to meet US officials in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to discuss repairing relations and possible discussions to end the crisis in Ukraine.

Recall that during a phone conversation with Putin on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump declared that they will start negotiations to put an immediate stop to the conflict in Ukraine.

According to Trump, they also talked on artificial intelligence, the US dollar, energy, and the Middle East.

According to information obtained, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump's national security advisor Mike Waltz, and White House Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff are scheduled to meet with Russian officials in Saudi Arabia.

Sergei Lavrov, Putin's foreign minister since 2004, and Yuri Ushakov, a Kremlin foreign policy expert, were traveling to Riyadh at Putin's invitation, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

The restoration of the full complex of Russian-American relations will be the main subject of their anticipated meeting with their American colleagues on Tuesday.


According to Peskov, "it will also be devoted to the organization of a meeting between the two presidents and the preparation of possible negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement."

When asked if Putin and Trump would meet in person later this month in Saudi Arabia, he remained silent.
