Update: Police Detain Suspects in Pipeline Blast
Two people have been taken into custody by Rivers State police authorities in Southern Nigeria in relation to the explosion that occurred near a portion of the Trans-Niger Pipeline in Bodo Community, Gokana Local Government Area.
On Tuesday, State Police Public Relations Officer Grace Iringe-Koko gave reporters confirmation of the arrests.
Thick black smoke billowed into the atmosphere as a result of the explosion, which happened late Monday night close to the continuing Bodo-Bonny Road building site. The fire quickly expanded into the nearby mangrove forest, according to video footage that surfaced Tuesday morning.
Oil is delivered to the Bonny Export Terminal in Rivers State via the Trans-Niger Pipeline, a government transportation route.

According to information obtained, the event happened close to Bodo-Bonny Road, which is presently being built by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc as part of a collaborative funding agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Nigeria LNG Limited.
In its over N55 trillion 2025 budget, the federal government estimated that 2.06 million barrels of crude oil would be produced, based on a price of $75 per barrel for the year.
At the moment, the majority of Nigeria's income comes from the production of crude oil. The budget projects N36.35 trillion in total revenue, of which 56% is expected to come from oil profits.
